2023 Autosport International – NEC, Birmingham

17th January 2023

The PAAA made an impressive appearance at the world famous Autosport International show (12-14 January 2023) with an eight-car display that exemplified the responsible yet exciting possibilities available within the performance and tuning aftermarket sector.

Located in the busy intersection between the Engineering Show at the heart of hall three and the dedicated Performance & Tuning Car Show in hall four, the PAAA display was intentionally open and welcoming. Each show car was allocated a generous amount of space, while the circular arrangement created a central seating area where members were able to conduct their own meetings.

PAAA show vehicles:

  • HP Tuners – Volkswagen Golf R

  • Scorpion Exhausts – MINI Clubman safety car for MINI Challenge series

  • AReeve Performance – BMW M3 Competition

  • Devon & Cornwall Police – Ford Focus RS police car

  • Awesome GTI – Audi RS6 Avant

  • The Performance Centre – LB Works McLaren 650S

  • Viezu Performance Tuning – Mercedes A45 AMG

  • Powerflex – VINI the V8 MINI

Over the course of the show, Autosport transitions from being trade-only to granting full public access. As a result, the PAAA stand got busier and busier, with visitors attracted to both the cars and unifying message of the new Safe Modification And Responsible Tuning (SMART) initiative, which was launched at the event.

Fascinatingly, the importance of the SMART message seemed to particularly resonate with young enthusiasts who were drawn to the PAAA stand by the black Focus RS police car – star of George's Car Media social channels. Whether the intention of these young visitors was to grab a selfie with presenters Sergeant Owen Messenger and George Chester-Master, it is important to remember that GCM's videos have accumulated more than a billion views and successfully engaged the interest of the next generation of vehicle modifiers with the SMART message.

Further amplification of the PAAA mandate was provided by broadcast interviews on the show's Business Forum stage. TV presenter and PAAA media agent Paul Cowland conducted two fascinating presentations with key figures from the aftermarket and wider motoring industry. This included a discussion with Karl McCartney MP, fellow petrolhead and one of the eleven members of the Transport Select Committee, about the future of tuning. No doubt visitors found it encouraging to hear from a parliamentary insider who endorses the SMART message and is helping the PAAA cement further friendships within government.

Videos of these two 30-minute interviews, as well as shorter presentations from PAAA directors Nick Counsell (Tarox), Jonathan Douglas (ITG) and Greg Kirby (Eibach) will soon be available to view on our social media channels.
